Mark Bellman joined UnitedHealthcare as the Central Texas (San Antonio, Austin, and Waco) Vice President for Small Group Business (2-99) in February 2006. He was the statewide Vice President of Small Business Sales & Account Management for all of Texas from 2015 through March 2021 when he assumed the same role for UHC’s Central Region (15 states). He is also the National Product Lead for UHC Level Funded plans.
Prior to UHC he was with Humana for over 4 years in sales (Austin, Texas) and management (Tampa & Orlando, Florida) capacities with an emphasis on Consumer Driven Health (CDH) plans. He was Humana’s CDH consultant of the year in 2005. He also worked for Great-West Life (Austin, Texas) from 1996 to 2000 selling self funded and 401(k) plans.
Mark is an active participant in Texas Association of Health Underwriters (TAHU). He was President of TAHU from 2013 – 2014.
In 2004 Mark was honored with the TAHU Ken Martin Excellence in Communication and Journalism Award, 2010 Mark was honored with the AAHU Shirley Hutzler Award, and in 2015 Mark was honored by NAHU with the Distinguished Service Award. In 2022 Mark was honored with the TAHU Shirley Hutzler Legislative Excellence Award.
Mark has written education courses on a variety of subjects including, Association Health Plans, Health Care Reform, Consumer Driven Health Plans, Self-Funded/Level Funded plans, and Single Payer systems. He has conducted these courses to chapters across Texas as well as the TAHU state convention.
Mark is a pioneer in small business responsible for the advent of HB2015 underwriting, the 12-1 early renewal strategy, SB80 plan and passage, composite rates for 2-50 ACR groups in Texas, and level funded plans in the small business segment.
Mark is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a B.A. in both Economics and Philosophy in 1993.
